CHICAGO - Kelly Malone, a senior middle distance and cross country runner at Mother McAuley High School in Chicago has signed a letter of intent to continue both her athletic and academic career at Saint Xavier University as a member of the Cougar women's cross country and track programs. As a freshman, she is expected to make an immediate impact on both the cross country and indoor and outdoor track teams at SXU.
Malone is the daughter of Jack and Kathy Malone of Oak Lawn, Ill. She plans to pursue a degree in elementary education next year at Saint Xavier. Malone was a member of the Mother McAuley girl's cross country team that finished fourth in the state in 2006. She also was a member of the Mighty Macs' 4 x 800 relay team that qualified for the state track championships and, as a junior, ran on the 4 x 800 relay team that finished seventh in the state.
"Kelly will make an immediate impact on both our cross country and track teams," said Saint Xavier University women's cross country/track coach Lisa Ebel. "She is the complete package blending good academics with outstanding athletic abilities. We are very excited about her signing with our program."
