CHICAGO - Colton Vinovich, a senior quarterback at Pekin Community High School in Pekin, Ill., has signed a letter of intent to continue both his athletic and academic career at Saint Xavier University as a member of the Cougar football program. Vinovich played at Pekin High School under coach Doug Nutter. SXU is coming off its best season in the 17-year history of the program going 13-1 overall, posting its first perfect regular season (11-0), winning the MSFA Mideast League outright for the first time in team history and qualifying for the semifinals of the 2009 NAIA Championship Series.

Vinovich is 6-3 and 200 pounds and the son of Dan and Lisa Vinovich of Pekin, Ill. Saint Xavier University football coach Mike Feminis believes that Vinovich has the right combination of characteristics that his coaching staff is looking for in a quarterback and will be perfect fit for the program.

"We saw Colton's junior highlight tape and were really impressed, so we jumped on him early," said Feminis. "Colton has all of the tools to be a great quarterback at our level and, after next year when Anthony Kropp (current SXU quarterback) graduates, he will definitely be competing for the starting job."
