Bourbonnais, Ill. - Senior forward Erin Hannemann (Homer Glen, Ill./Providence Catholic) surpassed career milestones of 1,600 points and 800 rebounds in leading No. 2 Saint Xavier University to a 95-85 victory over Olivet Nazarene University (Ill.) in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) women's basketball action Saturday afternoon in Bourbonnais, Ill. Hannemann finished with 24 points, 13 rebounds and five blocks in Saturday's big conference win after dropping its first game of the season Tuesday to University of St. Francis (Ill.), 77-72. She also moved into the No. 2 spot (1,619 points) on SXU's all-time scoring list with her 24 points Saturday surpassing former Cougar standout and NAIA All-American Candis Jackson, who scored 1,607 career points from 2004-07. Saint Xavier improves to 18-1 overall on the season and 3-1 in the conference standings with the victory.
The Cougars had three other players score in double figures Saturday with junior guard Shalonda Young (Chicago, Ill./Crane Tech) posting 14 points, while sophomore point guard Marissa Young (Monroe, Wis./St. Joseph's College/Monroe) chipped in 10 points. Junior point guard Alex Barone (Joliet, Ill./Marian Catholic) had a solid all-around effort with 11 points, six assists, five blocks and three steals for SXU. She also gave the Cougars a big boost heading into halftime when she hit a game-tying three-pointer as time expired from just inside the half-court stripe to make the score, 43-43. SXU kept pressure on the Tigers defensively throughout the game helping force 32 turnovers thanks in part to 16 steals.
Saint Xavier (18-1 overall/3-1 CCAC) returns home to take on Trinity International University (Ill.) in non-conference action on Wednesday, January 20. The game is slated for a 7 p.m. start at the Shannon Center in Chicago.
