South Bend, Ind. - Netting her fourth consecutive double-double, senior forward Erin Hannemann (Homer Glen, Ill./Providence Catholic) led No. 2 Saint Xavier University to a big 80-45 road victory over Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) newcomer Holy Cross College (Ind.) in NAIA women's basketball action Tuesday evening in South Bend, Ind. Hannemann led the Cougars with team-bests of 17 points and 12 rebounds to help keep SXU's perfect record intact at 16-0 overall, while also improving its conference mark to 2-0. Saint Xavier controlled the game from the opening tip jumping out to an early 12-4 advantage and leading by as many as 19 points in the first half.
Senior center Marquita Smith (Calumet City, Ill./Central Methodist/Lewis & Clark CC/Crane) also had a nice outing for the Cougars finishing with 10 points and four rebounds on the night, while senior guard Angie Bush (Valparaiso, Ind./Morgan Township) had a productive game off the bench chipping in nine points and three rebounds. SXU dominated the game defensively posting 19 steals, which helped lead to 29 turnovers by the Saints. Freshman center Baysia Cox led Holy Cross College with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Saint Xavier (16-0 overall/2-0 CCAC) heads to Kentucky this weekend to take on No. 25 ranked Georgetown College (Ky.) in a tough, non-conference match-up. The game is slated for a 2 p.m. (central) start on Saturday, January 9, in Georgetown, Ky.
