Women's Basketball - Mon, Jan. 4, 2010
CHICAGO - As if the Saint Xavier University women's basketball team did not receive enough gifts over the holiday break with a No. 2 national ranking and the first-place trophy from the 2009 SXU Holiday Tournament, senior guard Kathlyn McClain (Oak Forest, Ill./Converse College/Marian Catholic) was named the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Player of the Week for the week ending December 20, 2009. McClain had a big week for the Cougars leading them in scoring both games and surpassing the 1,000-point milestone for her three-year career with Saint Xavier University.

In a thrilling 69-67 win over John Brown University (Ark.), McClain had 18 points and a game-best seven steals. She also contributed three rebounds and two assists. McClain then surpassed 1,000 career points in the weekend's second game, an 87-44 win over Mayville State University (N.D.). She finished with 15 points on 6-for-10 shooting from the field, including three three-point field goals. She also had two rebounds, three assists and three steals. In the two games combined, McClain averaged 16.5 points, 2.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 5.0 steals. She shot 45 percent from the field and 56 percent from behind the arc (5-for-9). McClain ranks seventh in the league in scoring at 12.1 points per game and third in steals at 2.8 per game.

Saint Xavier (15-0 overall/1-0 CCAC) continues its CCAC schedule on Tuesday, January 5, with a road game against Holy Cross College (Ind.). The game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. (eastern) start.
