Vancouver, Wash. - Represented by sophomore Matt Rychel (Tinley Park, Ill./Andrew), the Saint Xavier University men's cross country season ended on Saturday, November 20, at the 2009 NAIA National Cross Country Championships in Vancouver, Wash. Rychel finished in 259th place in the 323-man field in a time of 28:12 for the 8K course (8,000 meters). It was SXU's first individual men's qualifier since 2007 when Steven Bugarin finished 131st at the 2007 NAIA Men's Cross Country National Championships. "I am extremely proud of Matt and what he has accomplished this season," said Saint Xavier University men's cross country coach Ed McAllister. "He is an extremely strong sophomore and I feel that he will accomplish much in the future."
Most of the SXU men's cross country team will make the transition to the indoor track season, which begins on Friday, December 11, with the Early Bird Meet hosted by the Eastern Illinois University. The meet kicks off at 4 p.m. in Charleston, Ill.
