Deerfield, Ill. - Led by a 19-point output by senior guard Larry Pikes (Richton Park, Ill./Alaska-Anchorage/Blackhawk East/Rich South), the No. 14 ranked Saint Xavier University men's basketball team pulled away for a big 104-73 victory over Trinity International University (Ill.) at the Meyer Sports Complex Tuesday night in Deerfield, Ill. The Cougars (10-2 overall) shot well as a team from the field hitting 42 of their 72 attempts from the field (58 percent) with Pikes leading the way in that category as well connecting on eight of his nine shots in the game (89 percent). Junior guard Marco Samimy (Peterson Woods, Ill./CICS-Northtown Academy) also had a nice outing for SXU scoring 18 points and pulling down a team-best seven rebounds.

The Cougars opened the game with seven unanswered points and never trailed en route to the 31-point victory. In fact, Saint Xavier scored 64 points in first-half action and led 64-36 at the break after shooting at a stellar 64 percent (27-for-42) clip. Also posting double figures in scoring for SXU was senior guard Julian Scott (Country Club Hills, Ill./Hillcrest) with 11 points and sophomore forward Phil Riggs (Rockford, Ill./Boylan Catholic) with 15 points off the bench. The Trojans were led in scoring by junior guard Patrick Atkins, who led all scorers with 24 points. Saint Xavier (10-2 overall/2-0 CCAC) takes on Trinity Christian College (Ill.) in a non-conference match-up on Saturday, December 12, in Palos Heights, Ill. Tip-off is scheduled for 3 p.m.
