Men's Soccer - Sun, Nov. 15, 2009
Joliet, Ill. - Just a few days after ending its season with a tough 3-2 loss to Olivet Nazarene University (Ill.) in semifinals action of the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Tournament, the Saint Xavier University men's soccer team got some good news when six of its players earned spots on the 2009 All-Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Men's Soccer Team when the conference office released the honors Saturday. Senior goalkeeper Ian Pickett (Mokena, Ill./Providence Catholic) was named the CCAC Men's Soccer Player of the Year and earned a spot on the first team along with teammate Dan Cross (Gravesend, England/Axton Chase), a sophomore defender and team co-captain.

In addition, SXU had four players garner recognition on the honorable mention team in senior defender Seamus Ryan (Alsip, Ill./Mount Carmel), junior midfielder Ben Johnson (Woodridge, Ill./Western Illinois University/Naperville North), sophomore forward Al Palar (Zabrze, Poland/Plainfield Central) and sophomore midfielder Adrian Guzman (Chicago, Ill./De La Salle). Pickett led the entire CCAC in both total saves (108) and shutouts (10). The Cougar defense was tough as well this season behind Pickett and Cross with the team leading the conference in goals against average (0.72) and goals allowed (14).

Saint Xavier ended its season with a 13-5-1 overall record and finished second in the CCAC final standings with a 7-2-1 mark. The Cougars claimed the No. 2 seed in the conference tournament and received a first-round bye before falling in the semifinals to No. 4 seed Olivet Nazarene. The Tigers will represent the conference at the 2009 NAIA Men's Soccer National Tournament after upsetting No. 1 seed Judson University (Ill.), 1-0, Saturday afternoon in Elgin, Ill.
