Palos Heights, Ill. - With 49 of its points on the day coming from its bench, the Saint Xavier University men's basketball team improved to 5-0 overall this season with an 86-60 victory over Kupyer College (Mich.) Saturday afternoon on the final day of the two-day Mitchell Classic hosted by Trinity Christian College in Palos Heights, Ill. Senior guard Julian Scott (Country Club Hills, Ill./Hillcrest) led the Cougars with 15 points, eight rebounds and five steals and shot an impressive 6-for-10 from the field.
Sophomore forward Dominique Harvey (Hazel Crest, Ill./Homewood-Flossmoor) was one of the key reserves for SXU Saturday finishing with 14 points and eight rebounds. Junior guard Stan Mayfield (Grayson, Ga./McKendree University/Shiloh) and freshman forward Scott Taloff (Bedford Park, Ill./St. Laurence) also provided boosts off the bench for Saint Xavier with 12 and 10 points, respectively. The Cougars led, 39-34, at the half and pulled away for good in the second frame leading by as many as 27 points. SXU shot 53 percent (18-for-34) from the field as a team in second-half action.
Saint Xavier (5-0 overall) takes a week off and returns to action next Saturday (Nov. 21) to take on NCAA Division I Chicago State University. The road game is scheduled for a 3 p.m. start.
