Palos Heights, Ill. - Shooting 63 percent (19-for-30) from the field in first-half action en route to a big 53-37 halftime lead, the Saint Xavier University men's basketball team hung on to claim an 86-83 win over Cedarville University (Ohio) Friday night in its first game of the two-day Trinity Christian College Mitchell Classic in Palos Heights, Ill. Senior guard Julian Scott (Country Club Hills, Ill./Hillcrest) led the Cougars Friday finishing with 18 points, seven rebounds and seven assists on the night to help the team keep its perfect record at 4-0 overall.

Sophomore Ed Gilgenbach (Fond du Lac, Wis./Fond du Lac) also had a big all-around game for SXU recording 14 points, five rebounds and eight assists. Sophomore forward Zach Opheim (Rockford, Ill./Boylan Catholic) finished with 15 points on impressive 5-for-6 shooting from the field, while fellow sophomore forward Dominique Harvey (Hazel Crest, Ill./Homewood-Flossmoor) provided a big lift off the bench posting 11 points and five rebounds. Saint Xavier led by as many as 20 points early in the second half before Cedarville made a big run and made things interesting in the closing minutes.

The Cougars (4-0 overall) wrap up play in the Mitchell Classic on Saturday, November 14, with a game against Kupyer College (Mich). The game is scheduled for a 1 p.m. tip-off in Palos Heights, Ill.
