Joliet, Ill. - With the start of the 2006 Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Tournament a couple of days away, the Saint Xavier University women's soccer team got some good news Thursday when it learned it had five of its players named to the 2006 All-CCAC Women's Soccer Team. Junior forward Lissa Coby (Lake Villa, Ill./Grant Community), junior defender Cassie Rumpf (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln-Way Central), and freshman goalkeeper Danielle Wagner (Worth, Ill./University of Illinois) all received first team honors, while senior defender Kate Bingham (Lincoln, Neb./Pius X Catholic) and sophomore midfielder Britney Kendzora (Lemont, Ill./Lemont) garnered honorable mention recognition.
Coby finished the 17-game regular season slate with team-highs of 14 goals, 10 assists and 38 points. She earned CCAC Women's Soccer Player of the Week honors twice this season and was also named the NAIA Region VII Women's Soccer Player of the Week on September 12. It is the third time in Coby's career she has earned first team all-conference honors. Rumpf helped lead a stingy defense that allowed just 11 goals over 17 games. She also finished the regular season with an assist. It is the second time in Rumpf's career that she has earned first team all-conference recognition. Wagner had an impressive debut season with the Cougars starting 14 of the team's 17 games in goal and logging 76 saves and six shutouts. She also had a 0.65 goals-against average.
Bingham finished the regular season with two goals and two assists in addition to helping lead SXU's tough defense as an outside back. It was the first time in the senior co-captain's career that she has earned all-conference honors. Kendzora played in 15 of Saint Xavier's 17 games and finished with three assists in the midfield. She also earned All-CCAC Honorable Mention recognition last season as a freshman. Saint Xavier (14-3 overall/7-2 CCAC) will host Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) on Saturday, October 21, in the first round of the 2006 CCAC Women's Soccer Tournament. The game is scheduled to begin at 11:30 a.m. at Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field in Chicago.
