CHICAGO - Behind a match-high 13 kills from senior right side Stephanie Galas (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln-Way East), the Saint Xavier University volleyball team rolled to a big Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) win over Purdue University-North Central (Ind.) Thursday night at the Shannon Center in Chicago. After a competitive first set that ended 26-24, the Cougars (16-18 overall/5-4 CCAC) used the momentum to finish strong taking the next two sets by scores of 25-17 and 25-18, respectively. SXU has now won three of its last four conference matches and has its final one Tuesday against Cardinal Stritch University (Wis.) before starting the conference tournament next weekend.

Freshman outside hitter Kelly Knudsen (Oak Lawn, Ill./Oak Lawn Community) also played well for the Cougars Thursday contributing nine kills and 10 digs toward the winning effort. Sophomore setter Ashley August (LaGrange Park, Ill./Lyons Township) posted 33 assists for SXU, while sophomore middle blocker Kim Scudder (Elmhurst, Ill./York Community) posted eight kills and two solo blocks. As a team, the second set was the most productive as the Cougars racked up an impressive .400 attack percentage with 14 kills and just two errors.

Saint Xavier (16-18 overall/5-4 CCAC) heads to Upland, Ind., this weekend to take part in the Taylor University Volleyball Tournament. The Cougars open the event Friday with a 3 p.m. (eastern) match against Ohio Dominican University.
