CHICAGO - Despite eight saves by senior goalkeeper Ian Pickett (Mokena, Ill./Providence Catholic), the Saint Xavier University men's soccer team fell 2-0 to Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) leader Judson University (Ill.) Wednesday afternoon at Dawson Field in Elgin, Ill. With the loss, the Cougars drop to 11-4-1 overall and 5-2-1 in the conference standings, while the Eagles clinch the conference regular-season title with a 8-1 league mark and a 15-1-0 overall record. SXU still has a chance to finish in second place in the CCAC by winning its final two games of the season against conference foes Robert Morris University (Ill.) and Calumet College of St. Joseph (Ind.).
After a scoreless first half, Judson struck quickly after the halftime break with a goal by junior midfielder Sven Moeller on a shot through the middle of the goal off an assist by sophomore forward Martin Khoshaba in the 46th minute. The Eagles would add a little insurance in the 68th minute of play when sophomore forward Jason Parmenter scored on a shot in the box set up by passes from Moeller and sophomore midfielder Corey Burke, respectively. Sophomores Al Palar (Zabrze, Poland/Plainfield Central) and Matt Klancic (Aurora, Ill./Bowling Green State University/Waubonsie Valley) each finished with two shots-on-goal Wednesday for the Cougars.
Saint Xavier (11-4-1 overall/5-2-1 CCAC) continues its season on Saturday, October 31, with its final regular-season home game of the 2009 campaign. The Cougars take on Robert Morris University at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field in Chicago.
