Elgin, Ill. - Led by an impressive 20 kills and three total blocks by sophomore middle blocker Kim Scudder (Elmhurst, Ill./York Community), the Saint Xavier University volleyball team picked up a thrilling Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) road win against Judson University (Ill.) Tuesday evening at the Lindner Fitness Center in Elgin, Ill. The Cougars (15-18 overall/4-4 CCAC) won the match in five sets by scores of 26-24, 25-21, 20-25, 23-25 and 15-13.
In addition to Scudder, SXU also got solid individual performances from freshmen outside hitters Kayla Mullaney (Elmhurst, Ill./York Community) and Kelly Knudsen (Oak Lawn, Ill./Oak Lawn Community). Mullaney posted 19 kills and nine digs toward the winning effort, while Knudsen recorded 11 kills and 17 digs. Sophomore setters Ashley August (LaGrange Park, Ill./Lyons Township) and Jaclyn Major (Lockport, Ill./Lockport Township) split the setting duties for the Cougars Tuesday finishing with 30 and 29 assists, respectively. Sophomore libero Erin Sebo (Downers Grove, Ill./St. Scholastica/Downers Grove North) was tough defensively for SXU finishing with 17 digs.
Saint Xavier (15-18 overall/4-4 CCAC) continues conference play on Thursday, October 29, with a home match against Purdue University-North Central (Ind.). The match is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start at the Shannon Center in Chicago.
