Elgin, Ill. - Despite two shots-on-goal by sophomore midfielder Nancy Schueth (Lincoln, Neb./Saint Pius X), the Saint Xavier University women's soccer team could not find the back of the net and fell 4-0 to Judson University (Ill.) in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) and regular season finale Tuesday at Dawson Field in Elgin, Ill. With the loss, the Cougars (9-8-1 overall/5-4-1 CCAC) take the No. 6 seed into the eight-team CCAC Women's Soccer Tournament, which begins on Saturday, October 31.
The Eagles struck first in the ninth minute of regulation when junior midfielder Lynsey McFarland scored off a corner kick play by freshman midfielder Kaylee O'Brien that also included an assist by junior midfielder Angie Gonzalez. Judson would add another first-half goal in the 21st minute when senior midfielder Christina Thornton scored off an assist by sophomore midfielder Tatum Teevans. In the second half, the Eagles tacked on two more goals with the first coming again off the foot of Thornton in the box off another corner kick by O'Brien. Junior forward Alyssa Low would add the game's final goal in the 75th minute off a deflected shot attempt. Senior keeper Nikki Grant (Lemont, Ill./Lemont) finished with six saves for SXU, while JU sophomore goalkeeper Mackenzie Fowler posted four saves and her league-leading ninth shutout of the season.
Saint Xavier (9-8-1 overall/5-4-1 CCAC) will take on No. 3 seed Robert Morris University (Ill.) in first-round action of the 2009 CCAC Women's Soccer Tournament. The game will be hosted by Robert Morris at the Redmond Athletic Complex in Bensenville, Ill., on Saturday, October 31. Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday.
