CHICAGO - Despite a career-high 15 saves by junior keeper Ashley Shugar (Lake Orion, Mich./Western Illinois University/Lake Orion), the Saint Xavier University women's soccer team lost a heartbreaker to visiting Olivet Nazarene University (Ill.) Saturday at Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field in Chicago. The Cougars dropped the game, 1-0, three minutes into overtime, when freshman forward Kelsey Warp scored on a shot from 25 yards out off an assist from senior midfielder Mackensie Duvendack. With the loss, SXU falls to 8-6-1 overall on the season, and 4-2-1 in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) play.
Freshman forward Elysha Peele (Tinley Park, Ill./Andrew) led the offense for the Cougars Saturday finishing the game with three shots and one shot-on-goal. ONU finished the game with 16 shots-on-goal off its 29 shot attempts, while SXU totaled three shots-on-goal out of its nine total shots. The Tigers recorded the shutout behind three saves by senior goalkeeper Danielle Johnston.
Saint Xavier (8-6-1 overall/ 4-2-1 CCAC) travels to Trinity Christian College (Ill.) on Wednesday, October 21 continuing CCAC action. The game is set to start at 3 p.m. in Palos Heights, Ill.
