CHICAGO - Freshman midfielder Elysha Peele (Tinley Park, Ill./Andrew) recorded two goals and an assist in Saint Xavier University's 5-0 win over Illinois Institute of Technolgy (IIT) in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) women's soccer action Wednesday evening at Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field in Chicago. With the victory, SXU improves to 7-5-1 overall and 3-1-1 in conference play, while Illinois Tech falls to 8-4 overall and 3-1 in the CCAC.
Sophomore midfielder Nancy Schueth (Lincoln, Neb./Saint Pius X) got the scoring started for the Cougars in the eighth minute on a break-away goal down the left side on a nice pass from junior forward Kelly Steinhaus (Lemont, Ill./Lemont). Less than 10 minutes later, Saint Xavier would notch its second goal, again off a beautiful assist from Steinhaus. This time, senior midfielder Jessica Martinez (Hickory Hills, Ill./Stagg) took the pass and blasted it into the lower left corner of the goal. Peele would add her goal in the game's 20th minute and SXU would take a 3-0 lead into halftime. The Cougars would add two goals in the last 10 minutes of the game, Peele would score her second goal of the game in the 83rd minute off an assist from Martinez and senior midfielder Cecilia Cline (Chicago, Ill./De La Salle) would add the final goal in the 84th minute off a nice through ball by Peele. Junior goalkeeper Ashley Sugar (Lake Orion, Mich./Western Illinois University/Lake Orion) earned her third shutout of the season by stopping four shots-on-goal Saint Xavier (7-5-1 overall/3-1-1 CCAC) continues conference action on the road against Calumet College of St. Joseph (Ind.) on Tuesday, October 13. The game is scheduled for a 3 p.m. start in Whiting, Ind.
