Findlay, Ohio - Saint Xavier University senior inside linebacker Mike Lally (Oak Lawn, Ill./St. Rita) and sophomore kicker/punter Tom Lynch (Frankfort, Ill./Southern Illinois University/Joliet Junior College/Lincoln-Way East) were named the Mid-States Football Association (MSFA) Mideast League Defensive and Special Teams Players of the Week, respectively, when the league released the honors early Monday. Both had impressive performances this past Saturday in SXU's 51-35 Mideast League road victory over Taylor University (Ind.) at Jim Wheeler Stadium in Upland, Ind.
Lally led the Cougars' defensive effort Saturday finishing with a team-best 10 total tackles (four solos), including a game-best three tackles for losses totaling eight yards. Lynch recorded a 30-yard field goal and had a pair of punts for 69 total yards. He also booted six kickoffs for a combined 357 yards, including one for a touchback.
Saint Xavier (6-0 overall/3-0 MSFA) is off to its best start in the 17-year history of the program and heads to Indianapolis, Ind., this Saturday to take on Mideast League foe Marian University (Ind.). Kickoff is scheduled for 11 a.m. central time.
