CHICAGO - Despite nine kills by freshman outside hitter Kelly Knudsen (Oak Lawn, Ill./Oak Lawn Community), the Saint Xavier University volleyball team fell in four sets (12-25, 15-25, 25-12, 17-25) to Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) rival Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) Tuesday night at Keating Hall in Chicago. With the loss, the Cougars drop to 11-10 overall this season and lose their first conference match of the year with a 2-1 mark.
Sophomore middle blocker Kim Scudder (Elmhurst, Ill./York Community) also played well for Saint Xavier finishing with five kills, while freshman outside hitter Kayla Mullaney (Elmhurst, Ill./York Community) was solid defensively with a team-best 14 digs. In addition, sophomore libero Erin Sebo (Downers Grove, Ill./St. Scholastica/Downers Grove North) recorded four service aces and 10 digs for the Cougars Tuesday night.
Saint Xavier (11-10 overall/2-1 CCAC) takes a week off before continuing conference play on Tuesday, October 6, with a match against rival University of St. Francis (Ill.). The road match is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start in Joliet, Ill.
