Davenport, Iowa - The prestigious Brissman-Lundeen Invitational hosted by Augustana University (Iowa) was held on Friday, September 25, and the Saint Xavier University men's cross country team finished 13th in the 26-team field. The Cougars were led by senior co-captain Emmanuel Gonzalez (Chicago, Ill./St. Laurence), who finished 86th among the 373 runners competing with a time of 27:24 for the 8K (8,000 meters) distance.
Next for SXU was sophomore Matt Rychel (Tinley Park, Ill./Andrew) in 98th place with a time of 27:35. He was closely followed by sophomore Buck Hill (Streator, Ill./Ottawa-Marquette) in 103rd place at 27:40. Following Hill was sophomore Dan Hasty (Oak Lawn, Ill./Brother Rice) in 119th place and junior Roy Witty (Mount Greenwood, Ill./Marist) in 120th at 27:53 and 27:55, respectively. The sixth Cougar to finish was junior Evan Lowry (Horton, Mich./Hanover-Horton) in 129th place with a time of 28:01 and rounding out the team's scoring was sophomore Brandon Hummer (Willowbrook, Ill./Hinsdale South) in 143rd at 28:14. The final Cougar runner was sophomore Andy Peters (Yellow Springs, Ohio/Yellow Springs) in 247th place at 30:11. "Our pack running has brought us closer as a group," said SXU men's cross country coach Ed McAllister. "I believe that each successive meet only makes us faster. We have our one through five pack down to 31 seconds. We should be dropping our overall times a minute within the next four weeks and then we should be able to see exactly where we are as a team." Saint Xavier heads to downtown Chicago this weekend to take part in the Les Earl Lakefront Invitational sponsored by Loyola University. The men's race takes place at Montrose Harbor at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 3.Click here for results from the Brissman-Lundeen Invitational
