CHICAGO - Junior quarterback Anthony Kropp (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln-Way East) threw for 470 yards and a school-record seven touchdowns to lead No. 12 ranked Saint Xavier University to a 51-0 homecoming victory over Quincy University (Ill.) in Mid-States Football Association (MSFA) crossover action Saturday evening at Bruce R. Deaton Memorial Field in Chicago. The Cougar defense also posted its first shutout since September 27, 2008, when they defeated Trinity International University (Ill.) in Deerfield, Ill. SXU is now a perfect 5-0 overall matching its best-ever start to a season. In 2007, Saint Xavier also started 5-0 and qualified for the quarterfinals of the NAIA Championship Series.

Kropp completed 22 of his 30 pass attempts on the day and finished with a passer efficiency rating of 281.93, a new school mark. All of Kropp's stats on the night occurred in the first half as the Cougars had a 48-0 lead at halftime. In fact, none of the SXU starters saw the field in the second half due to the large lead. Three Saint Xavier receivers finished with at least 100 yards receiving led by junior Mike Maher (Plainfield, Ill./Providence Catholic) with eight grabs for 172 yards and two touchdowns. Junior Xavier Torres (Chicago, Ill./Central Michigan/Lane Tech) posted three catches for 121 yards and three scores, while senior Bill McKeon (Joliet, Ill./Joliet Catholic) tallied six receptions for 114 yards and two TDs. Defensively, the SXU starting linebackers had a field day with senior Mike Lally (Oak Lawn, Ill./St. Rita) recording nine total tackles (two solos), including three tackles for losses, and senior Shane Franken (Carol Stream, Ill./Driscoll Catholic) finishing with five stops (three solos) with 2.5 tackles for losses and two quarterback hurries.

Kropp aired it out early and often with his first two passing touchdowns finding Torres for 37 yards with 12:39 to play in the first quarter and for 51 yards with 6:43 remaining. Near the end of the first quarter, Kropp hit McKeon for an eight-yard strike to put the Cougars ahead, 20-0, at the quarter. The air show continued in the second frame when Kropp found Torres again from 33 yards out with 9:20 to play before halftime. Kropp then hit Maher on back-to-back touchdown throws of 15 and 76 yards, respectively, to put SXU up, 41-0. With two seconds to play in the first half, Kropp would add another touchdown pass to his record when he connected with McKeon for a 22-yard reception. Previously, Jeremy Zientek and Aaron McGuire held the individual single-game passing touchdowns record at SXU with five apiece. The Cougars also notched a team record for passing touchdowns in a game Saturday surpassing the previous mark of six set against Olivet Nazarene University (Ill.) back on September 20, 2008.

Saint Xavier (5-0 overall/2-0 MSFA) heads to Upland, Ind., on Saturday, October 3, to take on MSFA Mideast League foe Taylor University (Ind.). Kickoff is scheduled for 12 p.m. central time.
