CHICAGO - Sophomore guard Shalonda Young (Chicago, Ill./Crane Tech) scored 17 points to lead No. 8 ranked Saint Xavier University to a 93-46 victory over Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) and regular season finale for both teams Saturday at Keating Sports Center in Chicago. The Cougars (23-4 overall/9-1 CCAC) jumped out to a 21-0 lead to start the game and never trailed en route to the 47-point win. The Scarlet Hawks fall to 10-20 overall on the year and 1-9 in the conference standings.
Every active player on the SXU roster scored in Saturday's ballgame, including five in double figures. Junior forward Elizabeth Carney (Traverse City, Mich./St. Francis) and freshman guard Michelle Tourtillott (Park Ridge, Ill./Maine South) each finished with 12 points, while junior guard Kathlyn McClain (Oak Forest, Ill./Converse College/Maran Catholic) chipped in 11 points toward the winning effort. Junior forward Erin Hannemann (Homer Glen, Ill./Providence Catholic) and senior forward Abiola Amure (Chicago, Ill./St. Scholastica) each posted 10 points in the victory. Carney also finished the game with a team-best eight rebounds.
Saint Xavier (23-4 overall/9-1 CCAC) takes the No. 1 seed and a first-round bye into next week's CCAC Tournament, which begins on Tuesday, March 3. The Cougars will play on Thursday, March 5, and host the winner of Tuesday's No. 4 vs. No. 5 seed match-up at the Shannon Center in Chicago. Game time will be 7 p.m.
