Men's Basketball - Tue, Feb. 24, 2009
Bourbonnais, Ill. - Despite 17 points and a game-tying jumper at the end of regulation by senior forward Scott Campbell (Detroit, Mich./Waubonsee CC/MacKenzie), the Saint Xavier University men's basketball team fell victim to its second straight conference loss in overtime dropping a 81-78 heartbreaker to Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) foe Olivet Nazarene University Tuesday night at McKie Arena in Bourbonnais, Ill. ONU's junior forward Kris Irish sank a three-pointer with five seconds remaining in the overtime period to break a 68-68 tie and give the Tigers the thrilling three-point victory. SXU falls to 15-14 overall with the loss and now sits in fourth place in the CCAC standings with a 4-5 mark.

Freshman point guard Ed Gilgenbach (Fond du Lac, Wis./Fond du Lac) finished with 15 points for the Cougars, while senior forward Rob Broughton (Elizabethtown, Ky./Gannon University) and senior guard Nick Wirth (Belvidere, Ill./Belvidere) each chipped in 11. Junior forward Tyler Wallenfang led Olivet Nazarene Tuesday with 21 points, while junior guard Rashad Mitchell recorded a double-double effort of 18 points and 15 rebounds. Both teams shot around 42 percent from the field in the ballgame, but ONU had a big advantage in the rebounding battle, 48-23. In fact, the Tigers scored 20 of their 71 points off second chance opportunities. Olivet led nearly the entire game, but was never able to pull away for good allowing the Cougars to rally late and tie the game on Campbell's jumper in the closing seconds of regulation.

Saint Xavier (15-14 overall/4-5 CCAC) wraps up its regular season and conference slate on Saturday, February 28, with a road game against Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT). The game is scheduled for a 3 p.m. start in Chicago.
