CHICAGO - Right-handed pitcher Mike Stirling and catcher/outfielder Tony O'Shea, a pair of seniors at Mount Carmel High School in Chicago, both recently signed letters of intent to continue their athletic and academic careers at Saint Xavier University as members of the Cougar baseball program. Stirling is a native of Thornton, Ill., while O'Shea hails from Valparaiso, Ind. Both incoming freshmen will attend SXU starting this fall and compete for playing time during the 2010 baseball season. The pair are currently coached by Brian Hurry for the Caravan of Mount Carmel High School.

"These were two big signings for the future of our program," said SXU baseball coach Mike Dooley. "Mike has a chance to be an immediate contributor on the mound as a freshman and may earn a spot in our starting rotation. Tony is an outstanding left-handed hitter and should also make a strong case for significant playing time as a freshman. This is an excellent start to our 2010 recruiting class."
