CHICAGO - Despite a game-high 28 points from senior forward Rob Broughton (Elizabethtown, Ky./Gannon University), the Saint Xavier University men's basketball team had difficulty slowing down No. 7 ranked Robert Morris College (Ill.) in the second half falling 86-78 Saturday in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) action at the Gentile Center in Chicago. The Cougars (13-12 overall/3-3 CCAC) trailed by just two points, 35-33, at the halftime break, but fell behind by as many as 23 points in second-half action and was unable to recover.
Freshman point guard Ed Gilgenbach (Fond du Lac, Wis./Fond du Lac) also had a big game for SXU finishing with 21 points, while senior forward Scott Campbell (Detroit, Mich./Waubonsee CC/MacKenzie) recorded a double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds. Senior guard Tim Baker led the Eagles Saturday with 24 points, while junior forward Reggie Bunch had 13 points and 11 rebounds. RMC shot well from the field hitting 34 of its 59 shots from the field (58 percent) and out-rebounded the Cougars, 49-29, in the game.
Saint Xavier (13-12 overall/3-3 CCAC) returns home to take on Trinity Christian College (Ill.) in a non-conference match-up on Wednesday, February 11. The game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start at the Shannon Center in Chicago.
