CHICAGO - Behind team-highs of 29 points and 10 rebounds by junior forward Erin Hannemann (Homer Glen, Ill./Providence Catholic), the No. 8 ranked Saint Xavier University women's basketball team continued its winning ways with a 92-66 victory over Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) foe Robert Morris College (Ill.) Saturday night at the Gentile Center in Chicago. The Cougars (20-3 overall/6-0 CCAC) have now won 11 straight games, its longest winning streak since the 2006-07 season when the team won 14 straight games and finished 29-3 overall.
Sophomore point guard Alex Barone (Joliet, Ill./Marian Catholic) also had a big game for SXU finishing with 12 points, 11 assists and three steals. Sophomore guard Shalonda Young (Chicago, Ill./Crane Tech) scored in double figures as well for the Cougars with 12 points in addition to her nine rebounds, four assists and three steals, while junior guard Angie Bush (Valparaiso, Ind./Morgan Township) came off the bench to chip in 11 points. Junior forward Shante Clark posted 16 points and game-high 12 rebounds to lead the Lady Eagles Saturday. SXU never trailed in the game and led by as many as 28 points late in the second half. The Cougars shot well the entire game hitting 49 percent (32-for-66) of its shots from the field, including an impressive 61 percent (11-for-18) from beyond the three-point arc.
Saint Xavier (20-3 overall/6-0 CCAC) takes on NCAA Division I Chicago State University (Ill.) on Tuesday, February 10, in an exhibition game. The game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start.
