CHICAGO - Tammy Contorno, a senior midfielder from Lemont, Ill., recently signed a letter of intent to continue both her athletic and academic career at Saint Xavier University as a member of the Cougar women's soccer program. Contorno is currently coached by Rick Prangen at Lemont High School in Lemont, Ill. She has the versatility to play at either a midfield or defense position next fall at SXU.
Contorno is the daughter of David and Susan Contorno of Lemont. She is planning to pursue a degree in education starting next fall at Saint Xavier University. Contorno earned All-South Suburban Conference accolades in both 2007 and 2008. A team captain as a junior last season, Contorno has racked up 72 points on 23 goals and 26 assists in her prep career thus far. In her tenure on the varsity squad, Lemont has posted a record of 60-13-3, including a perfect 28-0 mark in conference play. SXU women's soccer coach Jeremy Ekeler is excited about the signing and feels Contorno will bring a number of positives to the program.
"We had our eye on Tammy from an early stage because of her unique combination of speed, skill and toughness," said Ekeler. "What set her apart as one of our top recruits and is the reason she was sought after by Division I and II schools is that every time we saw her play she made those around her better. We are confident Tammy will have a big impact on our program and are excited to see her competitive nature added to our team."
