Women's Soccer - Sun, Sep. 4, 2005
Bourbonnais, Ill. - With senior goalkeeper Melissa Painter (Elk Grove, Calif./William Penn University) recording her first-ever shutout as a Cougar, the No. 21 ranked Saint Xavier University women's soccer team was able to win the 2005 Olivet Nazarene University Tiger Classic with a 0-0 overtime tie against Grand View College (Iowa) Saturday in Bourbonnais, Ill. In addition, senior midfielder Jen Belmonte (Darien, Ill./Hinsdale South), freshman midfielder Britney Kendzora (Lemont, Ill./Lemont) and freshman midfielder Sarah Scigalski (Alsip, Ill./Mother McAuley) were all named to the All-Tournament Team following the event with Scigalski also taking home the Offensive Most Valuable Player award.

The Cougars had plenty of opportunities to score outshooting Grand View, 14-1, in the game. Kendzora led the offensive attack for Saint Xavier with three shots, while three other Cougars each finished with two shots. The SXU defense played tough again limiting Grand View to just one shot and keeping Painter from recording a single save for the second straight game.

Saint Xavier (2-0-1 overall) will head to Ohio next weekend to participate in the Mount Vernon University Tournament on September 9 and 10. SXU will open with a 4 p.m. game against host Mount Vernon on Friday, September 9, before finishing with a 1 p.m. match-up Saturday versus Malone College (Ohio).
