Findlay, Ohio - Saint Xavier University sophomore Annie Godette (Tinley Park, Ill./Tinley Park) qualified individually and the distance medley relay (DMR) team consisting of junior Lauren Dentzman (Lemont, Ill./Lemont), sophomores Jade Braden (Rocky River, Ohio/Rocky River) and Dana Eppley (Palos Heights, Ill./Shepard) and freshman Jackie Ott (Island Lake, Ill./Marian Catholic Central) qualified as well over the weekend for the upcoming 2009 NAIA Indoor Track and Field National Championships held on March 5-7 in Johnson City, Tenn. The two sets of qualifiers captured their marks Friday at the University of Findlay's Indoor Track and Field Classic in Findlay, Ohio.
Godette finished the 3,000-meter race walk in 18:22.28. The NAIA's standard qualifying time for the event is 18:50.00. The DMR team finished Friday's race with a time of 12:45.74, which was over 14 seconds faster than the national standard qualifying time of 13:00.00. This marks the first set of national qualifiers for the Cougars this season heading into their third meet of the indoor track season.
"This is a great start to our indoor season with two qualified events in only our second meet of the year," said Saint Xavier University women's indoor track coach Lisa Ebel. "Annie came out determined and achieved her goal, while the four runners in the DMR showed tremendous improvement since our first meet two weeks ago."
The SXU women's indoor track team returns to action on Saturday, February 7, at the Illinois Wesleyan University Keck Invitational in Bloomington, Ill. The running events begin at 12 p.m. at the Shirk Center.
