South Bend, Ind. - Shooting 24 percent (6-for-25) and scoring just 22 points in the first half, the Saint Xavier University men's basketball team could not recover from its slow start and fell 79-65 to Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) foe Indiana University-South Bend (IUSB) Saturday afternoon in South Bend, Ind. The Cougars (10-11 overall/0-2 CCAC) were led by sophomore guard Mike Johnstone (Mount Greenwood, Ill./St. Laurence), who finished with 16 points. The Titans improve to 6-15 overall on the year and 2-1 in conference play.

Freshman point guard Ed Gilgenbach (Fond du Lac, Wis./Fond du Lac) was the only other SXU player to score in double figures coming off the bench to chip in 12 points. Senior forward Scott Campbell (Detroit, Mich./Waubonsee CC/MacKenzie) also played solid finishing with nine points and team-best 10 rebounds. IUSB led 39-22 at the halftime break after shooting 53 percent from the field (16-for-30) in first-half action. SXU did its best to recover shooting 58 percent (18-for-31) and scoring 43 points after the break, but the Titans were able to keep pace scoring 40 points to hold off a rally attempt. The Cougars were also hampered by 20 turnovers in the game.

Saint Xavier (10-11 overall/0-2 CCAC) returns to action on Tuesday, January 27, with another conference game against rival University of St. Francis (Ill.). The game is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. start.
