Milwaukee, Wis. - Junior forward Erin Hannemann (Homer Glen, Ill./Providence Catholic) posted game-highs of 23 points and 14 rebounds to lead No. 7 ranked Saint Xavier University (Ill.) to a 75-68 victory over Cardinal Stritch University (Wis.) in NAIA women's basketball action Wednesday at the Allen-Bradley Gymnasium in Milwaukee, Wis. In addition, Hannemann surpassed 1,000 points for her three-year career as a Cougar after coming into Wednesday's game needing 14 points to hit the milestone mark. She passed the mark on a jumper with 11:44 to play in regulation. SXU improves to 15-3 overall with the win.
There was no shortage of impressive performers on the Cougar roster in the non-conference game. Junior guard Kathlyn McClain (Oak Forest, Ill./Converse College/Marian Catholic) finished with 18 points, five assists and five steals, while sophomore point guard Alex Barone (Joliet, Ill./Marian Catholic) tallied 17 points and four steals. Sophomore guard Shalonda Young (Chicago, Ill./Crane Tech) also put up some nice numbers Wednesday chipping in eight points and seven rebounds. Junior guard Brittney Daum led the Wolves with 20 points. Saint Xavier shot well hitting 27 of its 58 shot attempts (47 percent) from the field. The Cougar defense also played well recording 16 steals, which helped lead to 18 turnovers by CSU. SXU led most of the game and posted a 37-28 lead at halftime.
Saint Xavier (15-3 overall/1-0 CCAC) heads to South Bend, Ind., on Saturday, January 24, to take on Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) foe Indiana University-South Bend (IUSB). The conference match-up is scheduled for a 12 p.m. eastern start.
