Elgin, Ill. - Sophomore forward Lissa Coby (Lake Villa, Ill./Grant Community) finished with a goal and two assists to help lead the Saint Xavier University women's soccer team to a 4-0 win, the Cougars' fourth straight, over Judson College (Ill.) in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) action Wednesday in Elgin, Ill. SXU improves to 8-2-1 overall and 3-1 in league play with the victory.
Sophomore midfielder Alana LoPresti (Darien, Ill./Hinsdale South) scored the first goal of the game for Saint Xavier taking assists from senior midfielder Jen Belmonte (Darien, Ill./Hinsdale South) and Coby, respectively, in the 11th minute of play to give the Cougars a 1-0 lead. Junior forward Angie Holmes (Shorewood, Ill./Providence Catholic) recorded SXU's next score off a pass from Coby with 15 minutes remaining in the first half.
A goal by freshman midfielder Breanna Cashel (Arnold, Mo./St. Pius X) gave Saint Xavier a 3-0 advantage in the 35th minute of regulation following an assist by Belmonte. Coby tacked on the Cougars' fourth and final goal of the game 17 minutes into the second half when Belmonte tallied her third assist of the game. Senior goalkeeper Melissa Painter (Elk Grove, Calif./William Penn University) recorded six saves for Saint Xavier and picked up her sixth shutout of the season.
SXU (8-2-1 overall/3-1 CCAC) returns home on Saturday, October 1, to face CCAC foe Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) at SXU Stadium in Chicago. Game time is set for 11 a.m.
