CHICAGO - Ben Johnson, a sophomore midfielder at Western Illinois University in Macomb, Ill., has signed a letter of intent to transfer and continue both his athletic and academic career at Saint Xavier University as a member of the Cougar men's soccer program. Johnson, a native of Woodridge, Ill., played prep soccer at Naperville North High School in Naperville, Ill., under current coach Jim Konrad.
Johnson is the son of Charles and Jackie Johnson of Woodridge. He plans to pursue a degree in business/marketing at Saint Xavier University. SXU men's soccer coach Ed Vucinic feels Johnson has a number of the qualities he is looking for in a high impact recruit.
"Ben's decision to transfer to Saint Xavier University is a fantastic start to our 2009 recruiting class," said Vucinic. "He is a player with a great soccer background that we were extremely interested in out of high school and I'm thrilled he found his way to SXU. Ben brings many of the things this team needs right now. Technical ability, pace and vision are all part of his arsenal, but it's his grit, fight and leadership qualities that will prove to be invaluable to us."
