Men's Basketball - Mon, Jan. 5, 2009
Georgetown, Ky. - Despite 18 points and 11 rebounds by junior point guard Julian Scott (Country Club Hills, Ill./Hillcrest), Saint Xavier University could not shake off a slow start and fell 85-63 to No. 9 ranked Georgetown College (Ky.) in NAIA men's basketball action Monday afternoon at Alumni Gymnasium in Georgetown, Ky. The Cougars (10-8 overall) shot 36 percent (11-for-31) in the first half and trailed 42-28 at the halftime break. SXU also had difficulty hitting its shots from beyond the arc making just two of its 17 three-point attempts (12 percent).

Senior forwards Rob Broughton (Elizabethtown, Ky./Gannon University) and Scott Campbell (Detroit, Mich./Waubonsee CC/MacKenzie) were the only other Cougars to score in double figures Monday. Broughton finished with 13 points in addition to his seven rebounds, while Campbell posted 11 points in a reserve role. Turnovers proved to be a problem throughout the game with SXU totaling 22 miscues. Georgetown also controlled the glass in Monday's match-up out-rebounding SXU, 41-27, including 10 offensive boards. Freshman forward Vic Moses provided the Tigers a huge lift off the bench shooting an impressive 14-for-18 from the field for a game-high 29 points. Georgetown improves to 14-1 overall this season with the victory.

Saint Xavier (10-8 overall) heads to Edwardsville, Ill., on Thursday, January 8, to take on NCAA Division I Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville (SIUE). Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
