CHICAGO - Sam Formella, a senior forward from Homer Glen, Ill., recently signed a letter of intent to continue both her athletic and academic career at Saint Xavier University as a member of the Cougar women's soccer program. Formella is currently coached by George Pohlmann at Lockport Township High School in Lockport, Ill. She has the potential to play a variety of positions next season for SXU, including central defender, forward and outside midfielder.
Formella is the daughter of Randy and Kathy Formella of Homer Glen. She is planning to pursue a degree in business starting next fall at Saint Xavier University. Formella is also a member of the Chicago Blast, a club team based out of Oak Brook, Ill., and under the direction of Aleks Mihailovic.
"We are very excited about the addition of Sam to our program," said Saint Xavier University women's soccer coach Jeremy Ekeler. "Her versatility is a huge plus. Sam holds scoring records at Lockport High School, but also is a key defender for the Chicago Blast. Furthermore, her height and athleticism give us a physical presence to help replace two of our graduating starters. Most importantly, Sam is a tremendous student-athlete, who is proud to become a Cougar and has the potential to be a Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athlete."
