Men's Basketball - Tue, Dec. 30, 2008
West Palm Beach, Fla. - Despite 15 points, six rebounds and four assists by junior point guard Julian Scott (Country Club Hills, Ill./Hillcrest), the Saint Xavier University men's basketball team had difficulty slowing down No. 3 ranked Northwood University (Fla.) in the championship game of the 2008 Northwood University Comfort Inn Christmas Classic Tuesday night in West Palm Beach, Fla. The Cougars dropped the title game, 90-72, after the host team shot an impressive 52 percent (34-for-65) from the field and out-rebounded SXU, 49-26, in the game. Following the game, Saint Xavier senior forward Rob Broughton (Elizabethtown, Ky./Gannon University) was named to the six-player all-tournament team.

Sophomore guard Mike Johnstone (Mount Greenwood, Ill./St. Laurence) finished with 14 points on 5-for-9 shooting from the field, while Broughton also scored in double figures with 12 points in addition to his six rebounds. The Cougars shot just 36 percent (23-for-64) from the field in the game and trailed by seven points, 41-34, at halftime. Saint Xavier started Tuesday's game red-hot opening up a 16-2 lead in the game's first four minutes. However, the Seahawks responded with a 20-6 scoring run of their own to take control of the remainder of the game. SXU was able to close to within three points four minutes into the second half, but a 28-11 run sealed the victory for Northwood. Senior forward DeSean White led the Seahawks with 28 points and 10 rebounds to help his team improve to 10-1 overall on the season.

Saint Xavier (10-7 overall) returns to action on Monday, January 5, heading to Georgetown, Ky., to take on No. 9 ranked Georgetown College (Ky.). The game is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start.
