CHICAGO - Leading all scorers with 22 points, junior guard Kathlyn McClain (Oak Forest, Ill./Converse College/Marian Catholic) led No. 7 ranked Saint Xavier University to a convincing 95-71 victory over Saint Ambrose University (Iowa) Sunday night in the semifinals of the 2008 SXU Holiday Women's Basketball Tournament at the Shannon Center in Chicago. With the win, the Cougars (11-3 overall) advance to Monday's championship game where they will match up against Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) rival University of St. Francis (Ill.).

In addition to her 22 points, McClain also dished out a game-best six assists in Sunday's victory. Sophomore point guard Alex Barone (Joliet, Ill./Marian Catholic) scored 14 points for SXU, while junior forward Erin Hannemann (Homer Glen, Ill./Providence Catholic) and sophomore guard Shalonda Young (Chicago, Ill./Crane Tech) each chipped in 12 points and team-bests of eight rebounds apiece. Junior guard Angie Bush (Valparaiso, Ind./Morgan Township) came off the bench to score 11 points for Saint Xavier on 5-for-7 shooting from the field. Sophomore guard Megan Cash led the Queen Bees with 16 points.

The Cougars shot an impressive 71 percent (25-for-35) from the field in first-half action to help build a 60-40 advantage at the half. Saint Xavier led by as many as 32 points, 83-51, with six minutes to play in regulation. Barone hit a three-pointer on SXU's opening possession of the game and never trailed or had a tie score the remainder of the contest. Saint Ambrose shot 37 percent (23-for-62) from the field Sunday and finished with 23 turnovers. The Cougars scored 35 of its 95 points off Queen Bee turnovers.

Saint Xavier (11-3 overall) takes on University of St. Francis (Ill.) in the championship game of the 2008 SXU Holiday Tournament on Monday, December 29. The game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start at the Shannon Center in Chicago.
