Kansas City, Mo. - Junior wide receiver Xavier Torres (Chicago, Ill./Central Michigan/Lane Tech) and junior defensive back Drew Rogowski (Griffith, Ind./Griffith) both represented Saint Xavier University as 2008 Daktronics-NAIA Football Scholar-Athletes when the NAIA national office released the distinctions over the weekend. The two SXU student-athletes were among 247 NAIA football players from around the nation, who met the requirements set forth to earn the academic award.

In order to be a recipient of Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athlete recognition, an individual must fulfill the following requirements: the recipient must be a junior or above in academic standing; have been in attendance at the nominating institution a minimum of one full year of attendance; and have a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.50 (on a 4.0 scale) at the time of nomination at the nominating institution. Both Torres and Rogowski are pursuing a biology degree at Saint Xavier University.

"I am extremely proud of both Xavier and Drew, because they have successfully balanced both their academic and athletic careers," said Saint Xavier University football coach Mike Feminis. "Playing football is a privilege and getting our players a good education is our top priority as a coaching staff. Both of these guys find a way to excel in both areas. You have to respect their work ethic and dedication to excellence."
