Women's Basketball - Sat, Dec. 20, 2008
Honolulu, Hawaii - A three-pointer at the buzzer by sophomore guard Melly Heaton gave No. 13 Campbellsville University (Ky.) a 71-68 victory over No. 7 Saint Xavier University in NAIA women's basketball action Saturday at the 2008 Hoop N' Surf Classic in Honolulu, Hawaii. The loss ends a six-game win streak by the Cougars, who fall to 9-3 overall on the season. The Tigers have now won their 11th straight game after dropping their season opener to No. 1 ranked Union University (Tenn.), 79-52. Following the game, junior forward Erin Hannemann (Homer Glen, Ill./Providence Catholic) was named to the 2008 Hoop N' Surf All-Classic Team.

Hannemann finished Saturday's game with 21 points and eight rebounds to lead SXU, while junior guard Kathlyn McClain finished with 16 points, four assists and four steals. Junior guard Angie Bush (Valparaiso, Ind./Morgan Township) came off the bench to chip in 10 points, including two three-pointers. The Cougar defense played well racking up 25 steals, which helped lead to 32 Campbellsville turnovers. However, rebounding was a problem for Saint Xavier in the game with the Tigers winning that battle, 50-24. The game was close throughout with the score tied 15 different times. SXU had its chances to win in the final 40 seconds with the score tied at 68-68, but missed three shot attempts before Campbellsville came up with the rebound with 10 seconds to play in regulation. Following a timeout, the Tigers missed a lay-up attempt but came up with the offensive rebound and was able to get off a final game-winning three-pointer before the buzzer.

Saint Xavier (9-3 overall) takes a break for the Christmas holiday before hosting its three-day, eight-team Christmas Tournament starting on Saturday, December 27. The Cougars take on NCAA Division III St. Vincent College (Pa.) in first round action at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Shannon Center in Chicago.
