CHICAGO - Saint Xavier University softball coach Myra Minuskin may have received an early Christmas gift Monday when she learned she had signed Jackie Dugan, a highly touted senior pitcher at Lincoln-Way Central High School in New Lenox, Ill. The New Lenox native will be a freshman at SXU in the fall of 2009 and is projected to make an immediate impact for the Cougars during the 2010 season. As a junior last spring, Dugan was the No. 1 pitcher for the 2008 IHSA Class 4A state champion Knights of Lincoln-Way Central and also earned a spot on the IHSA Class 3A & 4A All-State Second Team.
Dugan is the daughter of John and Kathy Dugan of New Lenox. She is currently coached by Dick Mandella at Lincoln-Way Central High School. Dugan plans to pursue a degree in education next year at Saint Xavier University.
"Our program is elated to sign a player of Jackie's caliber," said Minuskin. "She is the top pitcher in the area and led Lincoln-Way Central to a state championship last spring. Jackie is an amazing competitor and will contribute immediately to our program."
