Spring Arbor, Mich. - Senior midfielder Jen Belmonte (Darien, Ill./Hinsdale South) scored a pair of second-half goals to lift the Saint Xavier University women's soccer team over Spring Arbor University (Mich.), 3-0, in non-conference action Thursday in Spring Arbor, Mich. The Cougars (6-2-1 overall) scored all three of their goals in the second half to pick up their second straight victory.

Just nine minutes into the second half, Belmonte recorded the first goal of the game with sophomore forward Lissa Coby (Lake Villa, Ill./Grant Community) providing the assist. SXU wasted little time adding another score when junior midfielder Danielle Scartozzi (Crete, Ill./Calumet College) found the back of the net off an assist from freshman midfielder Sarah Scigalski (Alsip, Ill./Mother McAuley) just five minutes later. With 26 minutes left in the game, Belmonte tallied Saint Xavier's third and final goal off another assist by Scigalski.

Senior goalkeeper Melissa Painter (Elk Grove, Calif./William Penn University) recorded four saves and picked up her fifth shutout as a Cougar. It was the second straight shutout for the SXU defense after defeating University of St. Francis (Ill.), 8-0, on Tuesday. Saint Xavier outshot Spring Arbor, 26-8, in Thursday's victory.

SXU (6-2-1 overall/2-1 CCAC) returns home to face University of Saint Francis (Ind.) for a non-conference game on Sunday, September 25. Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
