Elgin, Ill. - Behind a season-best 28 steals, No. 13 ranked Saint Xavier University used strong defensive play to pull away early in an 83-48 road victory over Judson University (Ill.) Tuesday night at the Lindner Fitness Center in Elgin, Ill. The Cougars (4-2 overall) took a five-point lead on a three-pointer by junior guard Kathlyn McClain (Oak Forest, Ill./Converse College/Marian Catholic) with 12:40 to play in the first half and never looked back en route to the 35-point win. McClain led all scorers with a total of 18 points in addition to her four assists and five steals.

Saint Xavier also got solid performances from junior forward Erin Hannemann (Homer Glen, Ill./Providence Catholic) and freshman guard Alysha Ferry (Chicago Heights, Ill./Marian Catholic) with 10 points apiece. Ferry shot 4-for-8 from the field off the bench to reach her double-figure scoring total. After leading 45-31 at the half, the Cougar defense really put on the pressure in the second half holding the Eagles to just 17 points after the break. SXU scored 48 points in the paint in Tuesday's win and also tallied 47 of its 83 points off of Judson turnovers.

Saint Xavier (4-2 overall) takes some time off for the Thanksgiving holiday and will return to action on Tuesday, December 2, with a road game against Trinity International University (Ill.). The game is scheduled for a 6 p.m. start in Deerfield, Ill.
