Huntington, Ind. - Senior forward Rob Broughton (Elizabethtown, Ky./Gannon University) finished with a game-high 22 points, but the Saint Xavier University men's basketball team could not slow down the hot shooting of Huntington University (Ind.) and fell 102-89 Saturday afternoon in Huntington, Ind. The Cougars (3-3 overall) scored 55 points after the break on 59 percent (20-for-34) shooting from the field, but could not overcome a 17-point halftime deficit.
SXU had three players come off the bench Saturday to score in double figures led by sophomore guard Dan Palombizio (Michigan City, Ind./New Buffalo) with 13 points. Senior guard Nick Wirth (Belvidere, Ill./Belvidere) posted 11 points, while freshman point guard Ed Gilgenbach (Fond du Lac, Wis./Fond du Lac) tallied 10 points in the loss. The Cougars had trouble with fouls totaling 23 in the game, which helped the Foresters make 36 trips to the line resulting in 29 free throws made. Both teams shot well in the game with SXU hitting 52 percent (33-for-63) of its shots and Huntington shooting from a 53 percent clip (31-for-58).
Saint Xavier (3-3 overall) continues its road trip on Tuesday, November 25, by heading to Springfield, Ill., to take on University of Illinois-Springfield (UIS). The game is slated for a 7 p.m. start.
