Joliet, Ill. - The Saint Xavier University men's soccer team had four players named to the 2008 All-Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Honorable Mention Men's Soccer Team when the teams were released by the conference office early Monday morning. Senior midfielder Agustin Herrera (Chicago Heights, Ill./Bloom) as well as junior midfielder Melchor Castro (Chicago, Ill./Saint Patrick), junior forward Zach Kekelik (Merrillville, Ind./Crown Point) and junior goalkeeper Ian Pickett (Mokena, Ill./Providence Catholic) all represented SXU on the honorable mention squad.
Herrera is a four-time All-CCAC selection earning first team recognition as a junior in 2007 and was named the CCAC Freshman of the Year in 2005. He finished the 2008 season with three goals and three assists over 11 of the Cougars' 18 games on the year. Castro played in 14 games this fall and was second on the team in scoring with four goals and three assists for 11 total points. Kekelik was Saint Xavier's leading scorer finishing with eight goals and two assists for 35 points over all 18 games. Pickett started in goal for 14 of SXU's 18 games on the season and finished with a team-best 56 saves and a goals-against average of 1.71.
Saint Xavier finished the season with a 6-12 overall record and finished seventh in the conference standings with a 4-5 mark. The Cougars just missed qualifying for the 2008 CCAC Men's Soccer Tournament, which seeds the top six teams in the conference in a single-elimination event.Click here to see all the 2008 All-CCAC Men's Soccer Teams
