CHICAGO - Behind 58 points in the first half, the No. 13 ranked Saint Xavier University women's basketball team got a big 98-87 victory over visiting Purdue University-Calumet (Ind.) Saturday afternoon at the Shannon Center in Chicago. The Cougars (2-0 overall) got a huge offensive game from junior guard Kathlyn McClain (Oak Forest, Ill./Converse College/Marian Catholic), who finished with 29 points on 11-for-23 shooting from the field. SXU also had a nice game on the boards out-rebounding the Peregrines, 47-44, in the contest.

Junior forward Erin Hannemann (Homer Glen, Ill./Providence Catholic) went 8-for-12 from the field for 19 points for the Cougars, while senior forward Abiola Amure (Chicago, Ill./St. Scholastica) just missed a double-double performance with nine points and team-best 10 rebounds. Sophomore point guard Alex Barone (Joliet, Ill./Marian Catholic) had an outstanding all-around game finishing with 11 points, eight rebounds, nine assists, four steals and four blocked shots. SXU led, 58-44, at the half and shot 53 percent (17-for-32) after halftime to secure the 11-point victory. The Cougar defense had another impressive effort recording 17 steals and eight blocked shots in the ballgame.

Saint Xavier (2-0 overall) heads to Jackson, Tenn., next week to participate in the three-day Jackson Rotary Classic hosted by Union University (Tenn.). The Cougars will face three NAIA Top 10 ranked teams over three days starting with No. 3 ranked Freed-Hardeman University (Tenn.) on Thursday, November 20, at 7 p.m. SXU will then play No. 1 ranked Union University on Friday at 7 p.m. followed by a 7 p.m. match-up on Saturday against No. 9 Lambuth University (Tenn.).
