Women's Soccer - Sat, Nov. 15, 2008
Bensenville, Ill. - Despite an impressive 15 saves by senior keeper Nikki Grant (Lemont, Ill./Lemont), the Saint Xavier University women's soccer team saw its exciting postseason run come to an end Saturday afternoon at the Redmond Athletic Complex in Bensenville, Ill., with a 1-0 loss to No. 12 ranked Trinity Christian College (Ill.) in a play-in game to determine which team would represent the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) at the 2008 NAIA National Tournament. An unassisted goal by TCC's junior forward Carly Comerouski off a deflected save on the near right side of the box in the game's 59th minute determined the outcome. The Trolls out-shot the Cougars in the game, 22-4, and had 16 shots-on-goal compared to just two for SXU.

Sophomore forward Kelly Steinhaus (Lemont, Ill./Lemont) and freshman midfielder Nancy Schueth (Lincoln, Neb./Saint Pius X) each tallied a shot-on-goal for Saint Xavier in Saturday's game. The play-in game was set up after Trinity Christian won the regular season crown with a perfect 9-0 CCAC mark, but No. 4 seeded SXU then took the conference tournament title with upset wins over the previously No. 8 ranked Trolls in the semifinals and No. 2 seeded Trinity International University (Ill.) in the championship game. Only one team could represent the conference at the national tournament, so the two teams had to face off Saturday to determine a representative.

Saint Xavier ends its season with an overall record of 10-10-1 overall and finished fourth in the final CCAC regular season standings with a 5-4 mark. The Cougars also won the 2008 CCAC Tournament despite holding the No. 4 seed in the eight-team event.
