Men's Basketball - Fri, Nov. 14, 2008
CHICAGO - Scoring 63 points in the first half, NCAA Division I foe Chicago State University (Ill.) took an early lead and never looked back in a 112-83 victory Friday night against Saint Xavier University (Ill.) in college men's basketball action at the Jones Convocation Center in Chicago. Although the game will count as a victory on Chicago State's season record, SXU is allowed per NAIA rule to count the game as an exhibition as it was determined prior to the start of the 2008-09 season and will not have a loss added to its overall record. CSU took a 16-6 lead in the game's first five minutes and went on to hit 54 percent (21-of-39) of its first-half shots to build a 63-38 advantage at the break.
Senior guard Amir Resic (Prijedor, Bosnia/East-West/Mather) led the Cougars in scoring Friday hitting five three-pointers en route to 21 points. Senior forward Rob Broughton (Elizabethtown, Ky./Gannon University) had a solid outing recording 15 points and 10 rebounds, while senior guard Paris Davis (Maywood, Ill./St. Joseph) and junior point guard Julian Scott (Hillcrest, Ill./Country Club Hills) each posted 11 points for Saint Xavier. SXU had trouble with turnovers posting 25 miscues in the losing effort thanks in part to 16 steals by the Chicago State defense.
Saint Xavier (2-2 overall) will head to Westville, Ind., on Saturday, November 15, to take on Purdue University-North Central (Ind.). The non-conference road game is scheduled for a 2 p.m. start.
