The Cougars finished fourth overall in the eight-team field. The meet was won by Olivet Nazarene with 21 points. He was followed by freshman Matt Rychel (Tinley Park, Ill./Andrew) in 19th place at 28:13, freshman Buck Hill (Streator, Ill./Ottawa Marquette) in 23rd at 28:32, freshman Brandon Hummer (Willowbrook, Ill./Hinsdale South) in 25th place at 28:34, freshman Andy Peters (Yellow Springs, Ohio/Yellow Springs) in 27th place at 28:47, sophomore Roy Witty (Mount Greenwood, Ill./Marist) in 28th at 28:47, junior Emmanuel Gonzalez (Chicago, Ill./St. Laurence) in 31st place at 29:11 and freshman Dan Gruzwalski (Romeo, Mich./Romeo) in 39th at 29:50. "I'm a bit disappointed," said Saint Xavier men's cross country coach Ed McAllister. "We went out very fast, and unfortunately, it took its toll later in the race. Buck Hill ran his best race of the season, but otherwise it was not a great day. I can take heart for the future at the youth of this team. We'll be around for a long time and we will see many happier races and solid successes as we mature."
