DeKalb, Ill. - On a lay-up by freshman guard Alysha Ferry (Chicago Heights, Ill./Marian Catholic) with 34 seconds remaining in regulation, the No. 13 ranked Saint Xavier University women's basketball team closed to within six points, but could get no closer and dropped a hard-fought exhibition, 73-67, to NCAA Division I Northern Illinois University Monday night at the Convocation Center in DeKalb, Ill. The Cougar defense was sensational racking up 18 steals in the ballgame, which helped lead to 30 turnovers by the Huskies.

Junior forward Erin Hannemann (Homer Glen, Ill./Providence Catholic) led the SXU offense with 14 points, while junior guard Kathlyn McClain (Oak Forest, Ill./Converse College/Marian Catholic) finished with 13 points and four steals. Senior forward Abiola Amure (Chicago, Ill./St. Scholastica) also scored in double figures with 10 points Monday. The Cougars scored 23 points off NIU turnovers and shot 40 percent (22-for-55) from the field.

Saint Xavier (1-0 overall) continues its exhibition slate on Tuesday, November 11, matching up against NCAA Division I University of Illinois-Chicago (UIC). The exhibition is scheduled for a 6 p.m. start at the UIC Pavilion in Chicago.
