CHICAGO - Behind game-highs of 17 points from junior forward Erin Hannemann (Homer Glen, Ill./Providence Catholic) and junior guard Kathlyn McClain (Oak Forest, Ill./Converse College/Marian Catholic), the No. 13 ranked Saint Xavier University women's basketball team rolled to a 68-53 victory over McKendree University (Ill.) in its home and season opener Saturday at the Shannon Center in Chicago. The stingy Cougar defense helped force 19 turnovers and 28 percent shooting (7-for-25) by the Bearcats in first half action, which led to a 36-19 halftime advantage.

In addition to their scoring outputs, Hannemann also finished with nine rebounds and three blocked shots to lead SXU, while McClain posted six assists and four steals. Senior forward Abiola Amure (Chicago, Ill./St. Scholastica Academy) also scored in double figures for Saint Xavier with 12 points toward the winning effort. The Cougars racked up 14 steals in the game and also moved the ball well on offense dishing out 16 assists. McKendree finished Saturday's game with 27 turnovers. Senior guard Julie Garrison, who scored 10 points off the bench, led the Bearcats.

Saint Xavier (1-0 overall) will head to DeKalb, Ill., on Monday, November 10, to play an exhibition game against NCAA Division I Northern Illinois University. The exhibition is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start at the Convocation Center in DeKalb.
